I received a response about an hour after sending the email about my displeasure with Dee Dee’s after school course, Future Scientists. In response to my complaint about the course (i.e., it hasn’t been happening) the program coordinator of the after school programs asked me to call her. Never, under any circumstances, ever put anything in writing that you can avoid putting in writing. I called her and we had a nice talk. I think we spoke for about a half hour. I think she was as happy to have someone to complain to as I was.
The Program Coordinator walked into a bad situation. Her predecessor had essentially wadded up the afterschool program, set it on the new program coordinator’s front step, lit it on fire, rang the doorbell and ran away. She was quick to agree that things were bad and more than open to suggestions. The issue was a third party education company that the school was using to staff the after school courses. They weren’t providing instructors and not communicating with the coordinator. By the end of the call, she had agreed that refunds were in order and was going to continue to try to make the whole after school program work better by finding new educators.
On the following Saturday, the program coordinator sent out an email that a solution to the Future Scientists program had been found. I would normally scoff at a weekend email as an indication of poor time management. But, since the next class was scheduled for Wednesday, following two days off of school, I didn’t scoff, much. Dee Dee was happy to hear that she would finally get to have a Future Scientists class. Unfortunately, by the middle of the day on Tuesday the school sent out emails, texts, and robocalls letting everyone know that the school was going to be closed for the remainder of the week due to the snowstorm predicted for those days.
