20220914    Monday

My wife’s staycation has ended and today was the first day that I got the girls ready for school on my own this year.  Audio was up at 6AM, as if she had heard her mom’s alarm.  Mom, who hadn’t heard the alarm, was still in bed when Audio let us know that she wanted to watch PBS Kids.  I stayed in bed a little while to give my wife room to get ready for work.  Then, I got up and joined them.  I sat with Audio and wiped mucus from below her nose and tried to convince her to call it mucus instead of snot.  After my wife left for work, Audio went upstairs to wake up Dee Dee.  Soon, Dee Dee came down stairs and was excited to tell me, between coughs, that her nose had stopped running!

Dee Dee went directly to the bathroom, inspiring me to try talking with Audio about using the bathroom at school.  She told me at the end of last week that she had not used the bathroom in her classroom yet.  When asked why, she would only say that it was because she didn’t have to.  She didn’t want to discuss it any further last week, and didn’t want to discuss it at all today.  When Dee Dee was finished in our bathroom, I gave the girls microwavable pancakes, helped them with their teeth and clothes, and then tried to turn on an episode of Bluey.

The TV was sluggish and I had a difficult time bringing up Disney+.  We spent the rest of the time we had before we had to leave for school trying to start an episode of Bluey, only to watch the TV go black, over and over.  After a few attempts to navigate our way through the welcome screen, to Disney+, and then to Bluey and clicking on it, a message showed up on the screen informing us that an error had occurred.  The girls and I agreed with the message and left.

We had a rather uneventful walk to the school, arriving just in time to hear the bell ring and for Dee Dee to enter the building.  I brought Audio to where her teacher was gathering the Hi5 kids.  It was a lot warmer than I thought it was going to be, so I had Audio remove her sweatshirt so I could bring it home.  After she handed me the sweatshirt, she turned away from me and struck up an unintelligible conversation with a friend.  So, I tapped her on the shoulder and said goodbye to her.  Then I walked home whistling the Bluey theme song.  Once I was inside, I turned the coffee maker back on and I realized that Audio didn’t use the bathroom before leaving the house.

Both girls said that they had a good day when I picked them up.  Audio said that she didn’t use the bathroom at school during the day.  So, I tried to hustle them along to our house to avoid any accidents.  Dee Dee and Audio walked hand in hand most of the way, and when I went to hold their other hands while we crossed roads it looked like we were playing some type of free-form game of Twister in the street.  Audio insisted that she didn’t need to use the bathroom until 5:30PM.  Then, she had to!
