Dee Dee starts second grade tomorrow. To celebrate the last day of her summer vacation, I made her a meatloaf in the shape of a numeral two (2). In truth, it started off looking like a numeral two (2) but after it had finished baking it looked like a loose group of sloppy sausages dropped in a fashion that roughly resembled a numeral two (2). Either way, she also had her first fancy coffee from Starbucks! Audio had one, too. But, I don’t think that hers had caffeine in it. Dee Dee managed to spill the last bit of Audio’s on her and the floor. There were also hotdogs, playing outside, cheese bread, playing computer games, drinking pop, and games of Uno today.
The tricky bit was making the day seem special without making her overthink why we were making it special. Dee Dee is pretty good at taking things in stride. But, she sometimes gets worked up about things that are about to happen. As I write this, I am listening for her to come down the stairs and say that she can’t sleep because she is too excited about her first day of second grade.
I think that we’ll all feel better after the first day is behind us.
